Connect GTM / GA4 / Facebook Pixel — track visitor behaviour and ad conversion

Accessing the page

From the left main menu, click 'Promotions', then select 'Site Tracking Tools'. Once inside, the top displays: Site Tracking Tools. The page provides three main tracking tool cards, each containing an enable toggle, ID input field, and tutorial link.

Tracking Tool Cards

Google Tag Manager (GTM)

Google Tag Manager (GTM) is a centralized site traffic statistics service from Google. It manages a container of multiple tracking codes. Once connected, you can download GTM configuration templates customized by the SHOPAGE team.

GTM Tracking ID
Enter the merchant's GTM ID (e.g., GTM-XXXXXXX). The field hint says 'Please enter your GTM tracking ID'.

Three options are available: GA4 + Facebook Pixel / GA4 only / Facebook Pixel only. The buttons appear greyed out when GTM is not enabled or no GTM code is entered.

Google Analytics

Google Analytics is a site traffic statistics service from Google. GA4 tracking IDs start with G-XXXXXXX. The legacy UA-XXXX format is still supported but no longer recommended.

Important warningGoogle now defaults all new accounts to the new Google Analytics (GA4). After obtaining a GA tracking code, please use GTM (above) to set it up. If the ID format is invalid (must start with G-XXXX), the system will display: 'Your tracking ID format is invalid. If your ID starts with G-XXXX, please use GTM to configure it.'

Facebook Pixel

Facebook Pixel is used to track Facebook user behavior. Enter the merchant's Facebook Pixel ID (the field hint says 'Please enter your Pixel ID'). After clicking 'Submit', the setting takes effect immediately.

Comparison of Tracking Tools

ToolMain FunctionBest For
GTM (Google Tag Manager)Container that centrally manages multiple tracking codesWhen you need to connect GA + Pixel + other tools simultaneously and avoid installing each code individually
Google Analytics (GA4)Tracks visitor sources, page views, conversionsWhen you want to understand visitor behavior, traffic sources, and conversion funnels
Facebook PixelTracks Facebook ad conversions and remarketingWhen running Facebook/Instagram ads and need to track ad performance
Recommended CombinationNew stores should connect GA4 first (free and easy to set up). When you have more than two tracking tools, switch to GTM for unified management to avoid configuration conflicts. Pixel must be installed before running Facebook ads—ads without Pixel cannot track conversions.
